Piazza San Marco: the only Square in Venice

After visiting the ancient goldsmith shops of Rialto and walking along the Mercerie, among high fashion shops, jewelers and characteristic bars, you will reach the splendid Piazza San Marco. Surrounded by the Procuratie arcades, it appears the square as a bewitching living room in Istrian stone, home of Byzantine mosaics from the sumptuous San Marco Basilica, the famous and majestic bell tower, Gothic profiles and surprisingly decorated rooms of the Doge’s Palace.

In the square there is also the Correr Museum, the most important civic museum in Venice. Piazza San Marco changes during the year depending on the events it hosts, from the Venice Carnival, New Year’s Day, to Majestic Concerts and various events.
